In your opinion, what are the key qualities that make a successful real estate agent?

A successful agent has a deep understanding of their market, a thirst for learning while continually growing their knowledge and business to better serve their clients. They listen more than they speak, are curious, and ask good questions to better understand their client’s needs. Above all, authenticity and honesty.

How do you stay updated with the latest real estate market trends and changes? What resources or strategies do you find most effective for this?

Speak with other real estate professionals, contractors, builders, stagers, photographers, home inspectors and mortgage brokers. I read national and local real estate business news, follow blogs and listen to podcasts. Real estate resources and strategies can be found by attending conferences and classes. Trends are found by hitting the street and talking to people in the community.

In the competitive field of real estate, what strategies or techniques have you found to be particularly effective for acquiring and retaining clients?

 I have found success by becoming hyperlocal.  Agents generally want to be all things to all people in all areas. I offer value by focusing on smaller geographic areas within my community allowing me to bring a higher level of service and expertise within that focus area. By doing so I receive more personal recommendations, referrals and repeat clients.

For aspiring real estate agents, what steps or advice would you offer to help them kickstart their careers and achieve success? 

Don’t go at it alone. Find a mentor or join a team that is established in the area you choose to focus. Learn and follow the inventory, become a local expert. Speak with others within the industry and connect with your community by supporting local schools, businesses, restaurants, clubs and volunteers. The more value you offer the more valuable you become.
